General planning for a new industrial building and process-oriented operational planning.

The power company for the Canton of Zurich (EKZ) is one of the largest Swiss energy suppliers and supplies around 130 districts and over 40 municipal and local power plants with energy. Safe and environmentally-friendly energy supply is also ensured from the Dietikon site. To optimise the operating processes, IE Industrial was contracted with the construction of a new workshop and warehouse building as well as an office storey. The construction project was expanded even during the construction planning stage. In this way, after 3 years of construction time, the original office storey became four levels.

The challenge.

The existing industrial building in Dietikon is situated under 4.50 m of groundwater on an island on the Limmat. This meant that the greatest challenge was in lowering the groundwater, creating foundations using stakes and making excavations. In addition, the building services and energy supply were to be created to be as sustainable as possible. This also includes the use of reference plants to gain new knowledge for our own customers. In addition, the active operations could not be disrupted, in order to ensure a reliable energy supply at all times.

The success factors.

In order to get to grips with the groundwater problem, numerous temporary arrangements were set up on the factory premises and plant piping was moved in advance of the construction project. This meant that the corresponding measures could be carried out during active operations. However, the IE Industrial experts didn’t just implement the complete new construction, but also took on the task of the architect. A future-oriented office building with modern workplaces could be created, thanks to the selection of materials, colour concept and an optimal coordination of the lighting conditions. As well as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery, a photovoltaic reference system was also installed to obtain valuable findings for the future energy supply.
